- NEW! PVP invest $1 Billion in power sector (Cleantech, 9/2/08) Recently, two of India’s state-controlled power utilities, Bharat Heavy Electricals and Andhra Pradesh Power Generation, signed an agreement to set up a 125 MW clean coal power plant (see India to build clean coal plant in Vijaywada). The 125 MW power plant will use integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) technology, which has been implemented in several Indian power plants.
- Eastman licenses Reduced Sulfur Start-up Technology to Hydrogen Energy International (8/21/08) This patented technology allows for the operational startup of gasification reactors using a sulfur-free fuel to mitigate a source of sulfur emission during startup events
- Anti-coal trend could help Alter NRG’s gasification retrofit for existing coal plants (Seeking Alpha, 7/6/08) Alter NRG’s power station gasification retrofit can actually reduce emissions of not only carbon dioxide, but also sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and mercury relative to pulverized coal burning.
- KY seeks coal-to-diesel plant (Lexington Herald Leader, 6/29/08) The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority gave preliminary approval last week for incentives worth up to $550 million for Clean Coal Power Operations of Louisville to build the plant in McCracken County. The company also is considering sites in Missouri and Illinois.
