Quick Facts:
Posted by: | Comments- According to DOE, 49 of the proposed coal plants across the country will use advanced technologies; 22 of those will use IGCC
- Hunton Energy is planning a petcoke IGCC plant in Fort Bend County. Two phases, 600 MW each, are planned.
- Coal to liquids could replace about 5% of the U.S. crude consumption by converting about 120 million tons of coal each year into about 365 million barrels of crude.

Projects Around the Country
Posted by: | Comments- Clean Coal Initiatve advances to Round 3 (Earthtimes, 5/24/07) The latest round of projects will focus on coal-based systems and subsystems that capture or separate carbon dioxide for sequestration or beneficial reuse. Read the DOE Announcement and Notice of Intent
- Tampa Electric’s Polk Power Station is an integrated coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant that has been in operation for 8 years.
- Great Plains Synfuels is a coal gasification plant that produces synthetic natural gas. CO2 is also captured and transported 200 miles via pipeline for use in sequestration testing. Practical experience has been gained in its 20 years of operation. The plant operates on lignite.
- Development facilities that NETL is involved in: Wilsonville, Alabama (Southern Company); LaPorte, Texas (Air Products and Chemicals); and Morgantown, West Virginia.
